The City Secretary Department's mission is to facilitate, support and enhance the efforts of the City Council to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of their office and the ability of the general public to acquire and access public records and information.
The City Secretary’s Office serves the City Council by documenting all legal and official actions of the body. The City Secretary’s Office records minutes, archives ordinances and resolutions. The City Secretary’s Office serves as a facilitator between the Citizens and the Council.
The City Secretary’s Office, along with Dallas County Elections, coordinates all elections for the City of Garland. This office works with the County to secure polling locations, provide information to Garland citizens and ensures that the election process is fair and open.
Boards and Commissions
The City Secretary’s Office coordinates the recruitment and application process for all boards and commissions. Boards and commissions provide an opportunity for citizens to participate in an advisory role to the Council, providing invaluable input to the local democratic process. The City Secretary’s Office maintains an archive of minutes for each of the boards and commissions established through the Charter.
